Stanyu Stamatov (1886 – 1963). Born February 16, 1886, Shipka, Bulgaria, died January 17, 1963, Munich, Germany. Stanyu Petrov Stamatov is a painter, he works mainly in the field of figurative composition and landscape. He paints domestic scenes from rural life, paintings with a military theme, urban and natural landscapes, portraits. In 1911, he graduated from the Drawing School (now the National Academy of Arts) in Sofia in the class of Prof. Ivan Mrkvichka. He studied and specialized in painting, first in Germany (1925 – 1927), and then in France. He participated in the Balkan and the First World War as a military artist. He works as a drawing teacher in Kazanlak. He participated regularly in the General Art Exhibitions in the 1930s and up to the mid-1940s. There are over 40 solo exhibitions.
