Biographical data about the author

Karshovski, Preslav Borisov (1905-2003). Born on 04/07/1905 in Sofia, beg. on 25.02.2003, Sofia. Preslav Borisov Karshovski is a Bulgarian artist, painter and graphic designer. He comes from the prominent Renaissance family of Karshovski from the town of Elena, known for their participation in the struggles for church and national independence. He is the grandson of Ivan Karshovski – Chetnik under Voivode Panayot Hitov, participant in the Constituent and First Great National Assembly, founder of the Bulgarian Literary Society, which grew into the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. In 1927, he graduated from the Art Academy in the painting classes of Prof. Tseno Todorov and in the graphics of Prof. Vasil Zahariev. In the period 1928-1934 he specialized in painting and graphics in Warsaw. He works as an artist in the Plovdiv and Varna theaters, as well as in the National Theater in Sofia. Karshovski is one of the founders of the Sofia City Art Gallery, as well as the National Art Gallery, of which he was the first director, in the period 1950 – 1957. During this period, he taught “Poster” at the academy. He is the founder and long-time secretary of the Union of Artists’ Societies in Bulgaria. Preslav Karshovski is the author of many graphic and pictorial canvases, engravings, posters and illustrations in all genres and techniques, master of bookplates.
