NIKOLA TANEV, born on December 5, 1890 in Svishtov, Bulgaria, died on July 23, 1962 in Sofia. Nikola Tanev is an artist – a painter. He studied at the Paris Academy of Decorative Arts under Prof. Paul Renoir and Prof. Manjean. He exhibited his works at 28 solo exhibitions in Bulgaria and 27 in Italy, France, Germany, Spain, Sweden, Romania, etc. After the First World War, he lived with his wife Misha for some time in Germany. At the end of 1921, he arrived in the city of Mannheim, where he was invited to make an exhibition at the prestigious Mannheim Art Society, which at that time was housed in the Mannheim Art Gallery. One of the two sketchbooks that the artist filled with drawings and notes during his stay in Mannheim was published by Victoria Auction House in 2009. After September 9, 1944, Nikola Tanev was declared a “bourgeois artist”. and thrown into prison for several months.
