Boyadzhiev, Zlatyu Georgiev (1903-1976). Works in the field of portraiture and landscape. Considered one of the most distinctive Bulgarian artists of the 20th century. He was born on October 22, 1903 in Brezovo. He finished painting at the National Art Academy in Sofia under Prof. Tseno Todorov (1932) with Vasil Barakov, who were joined by Tsanko Lavrenov and formed the legendary group Baratsite. His work spanned two main periods, separated by 1951, when he suffered a severe stroke and became paralyzed. After a few years, he started painting with his left hand. The first period is distinguished by a neoclassical manner in composing scenes with plots from rural life. In the second period, the artist’s style changed radically in the direction of grotesque imagery, the inclusion of dozens of figures in the compositions and expressive colors. He died on February 2, 1976 in Plovdiv.
