Biographical data about the author

VASILEV, Marin Vasilev Selovlev (1867 – 1931). He was born on August 27, 1867 in Shumen, where he graduated from the Pedagogical School in 1886. In 1890 he graduated with honors from the renowned stonemasonry school in Horžice, Czech Republic. In 1891 – 1894, he studied at the Munich Academy of Arts in the decorative-monumental sculpture class of Prof. Sirius Eberle (1844 – 1903). He continued his education at the Art-Industrial School in Prague (1894 – 1896) under Josef Václav Missalbek (1844 – 1922). Since 1899, he has been a teacher at the State Drawing School in Sofia. Member of the Society “Contemporary Art”. He created busts of Hristo G. Danov (1911), James Boucher (1923), Stoyan Zaimov (1929) and others. Participated in the first, second and fourth exhibitions of the Union of South Slavic Artists “Lada”. One of the first decorative – monumental sculptures in our country. Author of the monument to Vasil Levski in Karlovo (a project that won the competition in 1903, opened in 1907), the monument to the Svishtov people who died for the freedom of Bulgaria in Svishtov (1909 – 1910), the bust of Georgi Izmirliev – the Macedonian in Gorna Oryahovitsa. Participated in the decorative layout of the Military Club, the Ministry of Foreign Trade and the State Savings Bank in Sofia, the Mausoleum in Pleven, etc. He died during classes on December 14, 1931.
