Biographical data about the author

Shivarov, Kiril Alexandrov Shivarov was born on July 15, 1887 in Varna. His father, Alexander Shivarov, is a furniture maker and woodcarver from Varna. He studied at the Art School of Applied Arts in Prague and in 1925-1929 specialized in sculpture at the Academy of Arts in Vienna under Prof. Edmund Helmer. In 1917, he became the first Bulgarian author to open an independent sculpture exhibition in Bulgaria. In 1923, Shivarov was elected to the leadership of the Society of Artists in the city and chairman of the “House of Arts” in Varna. Among his most famous works are the statues of brothers Evlogi and Hristo Georgievi, the lion figure on the monument on Mount Shipka and many others. He died on March 26, 1938 in Sofia.
