Stoychev, Emil Asparuhov. Emil Stoychev was born on June 30, 1935 in Sofia. He is also the most expensive selling contemporary Bulgarian artist. His creative biography begins somewhere in the 60s, when his first exhibition was taken down. Then Bogomil Raynov bought almost the entire exposition. Already in the 70s, Emil Stoychev intervened in the artistic life in Paris. The president of the Grand Palais in Paris, Yves Saint-Jur, compared the artist’s work to “magical realism” and described it as “truly a whole universe” with a very individual and recognizable style. The creator, who is an honorary doctorate of the National Academy of Arts, is a recipient of the “Stara Planina – 1st degree” order. Emil Stoychev lives in Sofia and Paris. They call him the “poet of the brush”, compare his “immediate relevance” to world geniuses such as Goya and Picasso. The artist defines his style as “fantastic realism”.
