Boris Kotsev (1908 – 1959), “Love”, 1947

Boris Vassilev Kotsev (1908-1959) – painter, monumentalist. Born in the city of Vratsa on September 8, 1908. He graduated in decorative arts at the Art Academy – Sofia, under Prof. D. Uzunov (1935). He specialized in mural painting, mosaic and stained glass at the Munich Academy of Applied Arts (1940-1941) under Prof. Hildebrand. . He works in oil and tempera painting, wall painting, mosaic, stained glass, illustration, applied graphics, decoration. With a distinctly distinctive style, he is a late representative of the “Native Art” movement, with a rich imagination and a sense of decorativeness and stylization. The colorful and bright palette of Boris Kotsev is reminiscent of the colors of Bulgarian folk fabrics, painted chests and folk ceramics. He died in Sofia on 7.12.1959.
